ARCON to upgrade architecture departments in varsities to faculties

The Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has concluded plans to establish faculty of architecture in all Nigerian universities.

This was revealed last week, in Abuja, during an induction of 141 architects, 14 technologists and 22 architectural firms in Abuja.
Speaking to the inductees, ARCON president, Sir Oladipupo Ajayi, noted that the council, established in 1969, was set up to regulate training and practice of the architectural profession in all ramifications, adding that its duties were covered by the Architects (Registration) Act A19 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Accordingly, Ajayi said, ARCON has been working to increase number of architects and enhance study of architecture in Nigeria and beyond.
The president noted that architecture is wide, hence, the management has received National Universities Commission’s (NUC) nod to upgrade all departments of architecture in Nigerian tertiary institutions to faculties. He added that the proposed new curriculum will soon be ready......

ARCON accredits 37 varsities for architects training

The Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), has given approval to 37 Nigerian universities to offer degrees in architecture.
The registrar of ARCON, Umar Murnai, said this while giving a report on achievements of the council at a valedictory programme in Abuja. He said, 24 out of the institutions were fully accredited, 10 are to be accredited after the expiration of their present accreditation status while three are on advisory visitation stage.
He disclosed that two foreign universities – Near East University Cyprus (NEU) and European University of Lefke Cyprus (EUL) have also been accredited and issued certificates accordingly.
Murna said the council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) after suspension of accreditation of polytechnics for over 10-years due to disagreement between ARCON and NBTE, which has now been resolved and accreditation resumed. He explained that 40 polytechnics are to be accredited jointly with NBTE while the council has visited five polytechnics......
